Who are we?
From Student To Teacher is a collaboration between Joshua Chlebowski, a current social studies educator, and Erin Scholes, his former social studies teacher and mentor. When Joshua entered the final months of his senior year in college, he reached out to Erin to discuss the different realities of entering the teaching profession. This conversation yielded a multi-year collaborative effort to support early career educators through the beginning stages of their careers in education.
Erin Scholes began her teaching career in 2006 after graduating from Illinois State. The first three years of teaching were spent at three different middle schools in Illinois and Connecticut. The third school became her teaching home for 13 year, where she went from teaching social studies to teaching math. During her time at this school, she taught Josh in both 6th and 7th grade. She also earned her masters in middle level education from Walden University and her masters in educational technology from Fairfield University. After 15 years teaching in the classroom, four student teachers, and a global pandemic, Erin discovered her love for teaching teachers and accepted a new position at her current school where she is the Innovation Coordinator. She runs an innovation center and works with teachers to incorporate STEAM into the content areas. Erin values collaborating with other teachers and helping those new to the profession find their passion for teaching.
Joshua Chlebowski graduated from Providence College in 2021 with a degree in secondary education and history, upon which he returned to Connecticut and began his teaching career. He currently teaches sixth-grade social studies (coincidentally, the same grade where he first had Erin as a teacher!) and is working on a graduate degree focusing on curriculum and instruction from Southern Connecticut State University. Joshua is passionate about developing equitable and inclusive curricula centered on stories from historically marginalized communities. As an early career educator, he is motivated by outreach to those just beginning their careers in education.
